lets talk about blood baby

Hand Reaching Out

Your blood is precious

Let’s talk about blood!  Blood is a vital fluid that circulates throughout our entire body bringing nutrients and oxygen to our tissues and removing toxins and waste form tissues.  Blood is made in the bone marrow and consists of three components known as red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC) and Platelets.  RBC, WBC and Platelets are all suspended in a liquid called plasma.  All have important roles but today we are going to focus on platelets.

Platelets are cells that are known for their clotting abilities and also aid in wound healing.  They contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing at the location of treatment.

While PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is not FDA approved for aesthetic use (face and hair rejuvenation) it is widely accepted and performed in aesthetics.  We use devices that are FDA approved for joint injections because it is giving you back the highest quality of your PRP that is available to you.

Know what devices your provider is using when you are undergoing PRP aesthetic treatments…

YES, it absolutely makes a difference!

Most devices that are used at other practices provide you with treatments that may last several hours after your procedure but at A Midas Touch Med Spa our preparation has clinically demonstrated that these benefits continue up to 7 days after injection…YES 7 DAYS… (so long as you follow our after care treatment instructions).

Why growth factors are so good

Growth factors released by platelets include:

  • VEGF which promotes angiogenesis and promotes wound healing

  • PDGF responsible for cell growth, new generation and repair of blood vessels, collagen production

  • EGF which promotes epithelial cell growth, angiogenesis and promotes wound healing

  • KGF which supports growth of keratinocytes

  • IGF which regulates cell growth

  • FGF which promotes tissue repair, cell growth and collage production

  • TGF-B which promotes growth and Nero genesis of epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells, and promotion of wound healing

visit A Midas Touch Med Spa to reap the benefits of using your very own blood for for your aesthetic treatments

Platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) treatments come from your own body, so there is little risk of negative reactions.  Your blood is drawn in office and processed so that only the desired enriched cells remain (PRP).  PRP contains growth factors that can help restore damaged skin and more.

PRP injections are believed to offer multiple benefits and is often used in aesthetics to

  • Accelerate new skin cell turn over and boost collagen production (like the “Vampire Facelift”)

  • Combat hair loss

  • Treat dark circles/under-eye bags

...and can even be used to increase penis size and sensation

Preparing for Blood Test

trust the process

To obtain platelet rich plasma your provider will draw your blood (just like what happens when you see your doctor and they order labs) and take 1-2 tubes of your blood which at this time is considered “whole blood”.

After your blood is collected we will then spin it in a device called a centrifuge.  When the blood spins in a centrifuge your RBC, platelets and plasma separate providing your provider with the ability to treat you specifically with platelet rich plasma and not with RBC that essentially provide no aesthetic benefit and can cause pain during the injections.  PRP that is contaminated with RBC or WBC which can have inflammatory and catabolic effects causing the opposite effect of desired outcome.

Now you are ready for your PRP aesthetic treatment.  Typically there are multiple injections depending on your concern (hair regeneration or anti-aging facial treatment).

Sometimes it is also used topically when undergoing a micro needling procedure.  No matter which modality the benefits of platelets can be plentiful.

Autologous therapy is a therapeutic treatment that uses a person’s own cells or tissue (for our purposes blood) that are processed outside of the body and then reintroduced to the same person.
